mind the bridge

Gter has been awarded funding for the MIND THE BRIDGE research and development project, which will run for 18 months under the POR FESR LIGURIA 2021-2027 call for proposals – “Support for the implementation of research and experimental development projects for companies affiliated with research and innovation clusters.”

The project, carried out in partnership with other Ligurian companies and the University of Genoa, focuses on research and development in the field of Territory Security and Monitoring. Its goal is to develop a platform for monitoring the stability of infrastructures such as bridges and viaducts.

The system envisioned by the partnership will consist of integrated and interoperable low-cost sensor networks and a dedicated cloud platform. It will take into account structural and environmental-territorial aspects, including the analysis of rain-induced hydrogeological instabilities affecting bridges.

The aim of the MIND THE BRIDGE project is to propose an innovative system composed of low-cost, integrated, and interoperable sensor networks on a dedicated platform for continuous data monitoring and processing. This system will support bridge asset management through a multidisciplinary approach, considering structural and environmental-territorial aspects, as well as rain-induced hydrogeological instability analyses affecting the bridge.

This solution will overcome the limitations of current monitoring systems used by infrastructure managers and environmental and civil protection agencies in areas prone to instability. By integrating IoT sensor networks with innovative landslide susceptibility analysis models, the system will enable real-time monitoring. Advanced algorithms will be implemented on a dedicated platform to collect and analyze data, providing geo-referenced information through a specialized dashboard. This will allow infrastructure managers to access real-time insights, supported by a Digital Twin specifically developed for the infrastructure and its surrounding environment.

The MIND THE BRIDGE system’s analytical methods contribute to ensuring infrastructure safety, even in cases where unknown or partially monitored instabilities may be present.

Gter’s contribution includes the integration of the DISPLAYCE solution, which enables displacement monitoring using GNSS devices. This allows for real-time, continuous monitoring of significant structural displacements in the infrastructures under observation.
